Man Killed For Being Drunk

The Morality Police shot and killed a man for being drunk.  Keep that in mind next time you pop open a cold one.

I admit, the guy looks like a dumbass.  But last time I checked, being a dumbass was not a crime.

His drivers license ID is also a mugshot.  It saved him time.
The contents of our bodies should not be criminal.  Americans should be free to eat, drink, and smoke whatever they like.

Being drunk while driving should not be illegal.

Driving hazardously, or endangering others with your driving should be illegal.  If someone is swerving recklessly through lanes of traffic—or speeding faster than the flow of traffic, or driving slower than the flow of traffic, or stopping erratically—they should be hauled off the road, and have their driving privileges revoked temporarily.

Which brings us to the morality police.  There is a difference between criminality and immorality.  The government does not have authority to enforce morality.

Thomas Jefferson wrote:
"The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others.  But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god.  It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg"

An act that does not injure another person, neither his life, liberty, or property, is not a crime.  It may be immoral, but it is not criminal.

Drinking alcohol and smoking weed are considered by many pentecostal prohibitionists to be immoral.  But they are not criminal.  Unfortunately our Congress has ignored the distinction, and has gone along with the tide of teetotalers in legislating morality.

Threatening to kiss drunks would have been more effective.
Dangerous driving should be illegal.  Injuring others with your car should be punished.  But drinking should not be.  Driving while drunk, if you are able to stay in the lanes, and obey the rules of the road, should not be illegal.  It should be legal even if you are not able to drive well.  You should be punished for your dangerous driving, not for the contents of your blood, breath, and urine.

Our prisons are full of "immoral" people who have never hurt anyone other than themselves.  Cops routinely harass, beat, and sometimes even kill Americans, normal people, who just want to have a good time.

In an economic recession, many people turn to drugs and alcohol to drown their woes.  They should not be harassed and imprisoned.  They should be helped and heard.

Drinking alcohol and doing other drugs is a moral issue.  It should be dealt with by ministers, not mayors.  It is outside the jurisdiction of government.
